On November 13, Lake Washington Schools Foundation hosted its annual Donor Gratitude Reception, celebrating the generosity and dedication of those who make our mission possible. Held at the Seattle Marriott Redmond hotel, this heartfelt evening was an opportunity to celebrate the impact of our shared efforts, reflect on the strides we’ve made, and look forward to the bright future we’re building together for the students and families in the Lake Washington School District (LWSD).
The event brought together a vibrant community of supporters who share a common goal: ensuring that every student has access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive. Guests enjoyed an evening of connection and gratitude, highlighted by remarks from LWSD Superintendent Jon Holmen and LWSF Executive Director Katy Philips.
A Unique Partnership for Student Success
In his inspiring speech, Superintendent Holmen emphasized the strong and collaborative relationship between LWSD and LWSF, noting how both organizations share a singular focus: the students. He described the Foundation as stronger today than ever, thanks to intentional planning and partnerships that address gaps in support for students.
Dr. Holmen shared a powerful example of a recent partnership between the school district, LWSF, and the City of Redmond to fund and launch Care Solace, a comprehensive mental health care coordination service designed to support students, families, and staff.
Transforming Lives Through Care Solace
Dr. Holmen highlighted Care Solace’s remarkable impact in just two months. Between September and October, the program facilitated 388 inbound interactions, connecting 67 individuals with mental health resources. The industry standard for placement in care is 18%, but Care Solace achieved a 39% success rate—more than double the average.
“This is evidence of the benefit the Foundation is providing through unique partnerships,” said Dr. Holmen. “Partnering with the City of Redmond to fund this for our entire community is a testament to the commitment of the Foundation and the work being done.”
Looking Back on 20 Years of Impact
This year’s reception was especially meaningful as it marked LWSF’s 20th anniversary. Over two decades, the Foundation has evolved from a grassroots initiative to a thriving organization that has made a lasting impact on countless students and families. The evening was a reminder that this success is rooted in the generosity and dedication of our donors, sponsors, and community partners. Their contributions fuel programs like Care Solace, Pantry Packs, Inclusive Libraries, and more, helping remove barriers, support wellness, build connections, and enhance learning for students across LWSD.
