Help provide summer school scholarships for students experiencing homelessness and other hardships throughout the district, as well as fund enrichment opportunities for students attending summer school at our Title 1 schools.

Not every kid looks forward to the end of the school year. Many children rely on schools as safe havens, finding stability and essential resources within their walls. When schools close in the summer, hundreds of children in the LWSD lose access to these vital resources.

Summer school keeps those doors open, but not every family can afford the fees. That’s why LWSF is helping donors provide summer school scholarships for students experiencing homelessness and other hardships throughout the district, as well as fund enrichment opportunities for students attending summer school at our Title 1 schools.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the way our donors have already responded to the call to help kids living in unstable housing,” noted LWSF Executive Director Katy Philips. “Funding summer school scholarships for students experiencing homelessness and other hardships remains our top priority. But why stop there, when we also have the chance to bring joy and wonder to students attending summer school at our Title 1 schools?”

Some of the enrichment activities at Title 1 schools that donors might help fund this summer include an educational visit with exotic animals, a deep dive into abstract art, and a tour of a local fire department.

“Children need access to diverse and unfamiliar experiences in order to develop empathy for and awareness of the world around them,” said Jamie Holland, LWSF’s Development Officer. “We have the chance to help students not only have a ton of fun but also become wiser, more engaged citizens in our communities. Let’s do it.”
