Zahra Eslami’s journey with the Lake Washington Schools Foundation (LWSF) is deeply rooted in her personal story.
Growing up, Zahra was inspired by her parents’ dedication—her mother, a high school principal and women’s advocate, and her father, an electrical engineer for 50 years. Their influence not only taught her the value of hard work and commitment, but also instilled in her a deep passion for education, advocacy, as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I).
A Parent’s Motivation: Ensuring Every Voice is Heard
As a parent of a student at John James Audubon Elementary School, Zahra’s motivation to become an LWSF ambassador stems from her desire to ensure that every student’s voice is heard and valued. Her commitment to the cause is driven by a belief that LWSF plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience by providing essential resources, funding innovative programs, and supporting initiatives that promote educational equity.
“The foundation’s efforts enhance the learning experiences and well-being of students, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive educational environment,” she explains.
Engaging with the Community
To raise awareness and support for LWSF, Zahra actively engages with school principals, counselors, and PTSA members, ensuring the community is informed and involved. She encourages others to consider becoming ambassadors, highlighting the rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of students and the community.
“It’s a great opportunity to work with caring and open-minded LWSF leaders and active parents from different schools,” Zahra adds.
Beyond LWSF: A Passion for Advocacy
In addition to her role as an LWSF Ambassador, Zahra serves on the LWPTSA Council Board of Directors as the Vice President of Advocacy. Her guiding mantra, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” reflects her commitment to advocacy and DE&I initiatives. Through her work, Zahra continues to champion causes that align with her values and make a positive impact on the community.
Despite her many responsibilities, Zahra finds time to recharge by reading, spending quality time with her family, and participating in community events.
Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Zahra hopes to see LWSF continue to grow and expand its impact. She envisions the Foundation reaching more students and families, providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive. By fostering more collaboration with school counselors and PTSAs, Zahra believes LWSF can implement programs that benefit every student.
Zahra’s story is a testament to the impact one individual can have on their community. Her dedication to advocacy and education continues to inspire those around her, making her an invaluable LWSF ambassador.
